Language-Does it also affect our mindset?
This was my high school project.
Language is a term most commonly used to refer-the method of human communication, either spoken or written, consisting of the use of words in an agreed way. In linguistics the term defines itself as the type of human thought process which creates and uses language.
Although some other animals make use of quite sophisticated communicative systems, and these are sometimes casually referred to as animal language, none of these are known to make use of all of the properties that linguists use to define language in the strict sense. Most languages make use of sound, but the combinations of sounds used do not have any necessary and inherent meaning – they are merely an agreed-upon convention to represent a certain thing by users of that language. Through this project I am trying to conclude whether or not our languages can also affect our mindset. I’m going to do a survey with 5 languages namely Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and English.
